The Village of Slavyantsi in the Province of Bourgas (Bourgas) in Bulgaria.

Burgas, Sungurlare, Slavyantsi, Sign says the First Russian Rocket 11th May 1963

Burgas, Sungurlare, Slavyantsi, the sign says that this is the First Russian Rocket, and has a date of 11th May 1963

Slavyantsi is in the municipality of Sungurlare, and the region of Burgas (Bourgas), and appears to be a little more lively than some Bulgarian villages, for example, on the day I visited (a Sunday), they had a small market in the square, with quite a few village people in evidence.

The park - which is very close to the square has an amazing artifact - a russian rocket! The sign on the rocket (in bulgarian) says that this was the first russian rocket, and bears the date 11th May 1963 - of course there were russian rockets before that date, and the only rocket 'happening' in that year was the launch of the first female cosmonaut - .Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova - in June 1963.

Like all villages in this region, Slavyantsi's location means that it is near to the motorways leading to Sofia, Burgas, and the seaside resorts of the Black Sea, including Sunny Beach and Sozopol, which may be reached in a little over one hour.

There is a church located in the park, dedicated to Saint Dimitri, and a little down the village is a winery named Vinex, reputedly the largest producer of wine in Bulgaria - and as this company has won several awards that must bear testament to the quality of bulgarian produced wines.
